Features of SPEEDPLAY’s power meters
Pedal-type power meter
SPEEDPLAY’s brand icon is its uniquely shaped binding pedals, and the power meter is also a pedal-type power meter in the same shape as the binding pedals.
This is the long-awaited power meter for SPEEDPLAY users, which features a power meter function while maintaining the close fit of the low-stack height and the convenience of the double-sided catch.
SPEEDPLAY’s lineup of power meters
POWRLINK ZERO
The POWRLINK ZERO is SPEEDPLAY’s first binding pedal with a power measurement function in 2022. The lineup includes two models: the dual-foot-measuring “DUAL-SIDED” model and the single-foot-measuring “SINGLE-SIDED” model.
The appearance is almost the same as conventional SPEEDPLAY pedals, but a power measurement unit called a “sensor pod” is mounted on the crank-mounted part of the shaft.
The power measurement accuracy is extremely high at ±1%, and since it is a pedal type, it can be used on multiple bikes.
Another feature of POWRLINK ZERO is that it is battery-powered, allowing 75 hours of running time on a single charge, and the power measurement unit can be charged while the power meter is attached to the bike by connecting a special cradle. This mechanism is very smart for actual operation.
Weighing 276g for the DUAL-SIDED and 250g for the SINGLE-SIDED, they are up in weight compared to SPEEDPLAY’s binding pedals, but are light enough. They will be a good choice for users pursuing lighter weight.
How to choose a SPEEDPLAY power meter
Currently, SPEEDPLAY offers only one type of power meter, the POWRLINK ZERO, so the choice will be “POWRLINK ZERO” or “another power meter”.
The POWRLINK ZERO is a high-performance power meter, but it is not easily affordable as it is an expensive part costing $999 for DUAL-SIDED.
If you want to use SPEEDPLAY pedals and also measure power inexpensively, you can use a crank-type power meter such as the 4iii.
